Hi Creative Community!

Today, we're focusing on how to save your Adobe Illustrator artwork in PNG format, specifically for successful uploads to microstock platforms and artist marketplaces.

PNG is a raster image format known for its lossless compression and support for transparency. This makes it ideal for web graphics, logos, and illustrations that require crisp edges and alpha channel support.

Advantages of PNG:

Lossless Compression: PNG files retain image quality even after multiple saves, unlike JPEG.

Transparency Support: PNG allows for transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds, essential for overlays and website elements.

Sharp Edges: Excellent for graphics with sharp lines and text.

Color Depth: Supports a wide range of color depths, resulting in vibrant images.

Saving Your Illustrator Artwork as PNG for Microstocks and Marketplaces:

1. Initiate Export:

- Go to File > Export > Export As.

- Enter your desired file name and choose a destination folder.

- In the "Save as type" dropdown, select "PNG (*.PNG)".

- Check "Use Artboards" and specify the "Range" to export specific artboards.

- Click "Export".

2. Optimize Export Settings:

- Resolution: "High (300 ppi)". This is the standard for high-quality raster images and is often required by microstock platforms to ensure sharp details.

- Anti-aliasing: "Type Optimized (Hinting)". If your artwork contains text, this option ensures the sharpest text rendering. If your artwork contains illustrations with sharp edges, and you do not want any blurring, you may uncheck this option.

- Interlaced: Unchecked. Interlacing is generally not necessary for microstock submissions and can increase file size.

- Background Color: "Transparent". This is crucial for microstock uploads, allowing for versatile use of your artwork.

3. Click "OK".

Key Considerations for Microstock Success:

- Always adhere to the specific guidelines of each microstock platform.

- 300 ppi is a common requirement for high-resolution images, but check if the microstock requires a different resolution.

- Transparency is a very valuable feature, and is often requested.

- Double check your exported PNG files to ensure they meet your quality expectations.
